We could pay for a dream vacation in cash if we had a nickle for every conversation we’ve had about the scale! It’s quite incredible how powerful that floor gadget has over many of you. Time to take the power back!
The scale is just an arbitrary summation of all the things in & on your body added together. It is NOT the definition of your success with your fat loss program. We repeat: IT IS NOT THE DEFINITION OF YOUR SUCCESS WITH YOUR FAT LOSS PROGRAM!
Let’s dissect. There are many physiological factors that affect what the number reads on the scale. And often, it can vary based on some of these most common scenarios:
You truly aren’t tracking ALL things put into your mouth. Yes, that bite of cookie does contain calories. So does the sip of margarita you just tried. Get it? These BLT’s (bites, licks, tastes, sips) can add up and easily take you out of a calorie deficit.
♦︎ Eating out at a restaurant is totally acceptable. But keep in mind, if you do it often (even when tracking) the nutritional info isn’t always 100% accurate. The chef isn’t weighing your food! Plus he/she is going to do whatever it takes to make that food delicious…which means you aren’t going to see the chef with a tablespoon measurement for butter or oil! Get it? Eating out once in a while..no big deal. But if you do it often, expect that your macro tracking is likely inaccurate.
Even if you are 100% perfect during the week…..weekend calories still count!!! And if you aren’t tracking them…you have no idea how many calories you ingested. And if you don’t know that…you cannot complain about not getting results! Go ahead and have your cocktails and pizza…but track them! If you are expecting change in your physique, then expect to make a change in your actions.
♦︎ Ladies! If Aunt Flo is in town….she always carries extra water! Need we say more?
Stress induces the hormone Cortisol. Cortisol has been shown to slow your metabolism & increase cravings. Take a breath and strive to include some practical ways to decrease your stress.
♦︎ Ever weigh yourself after going #2? An average
can weigh .25-1lbs. But just know you aren’t pooping fat! It’s mostly water weight.
If you are eating higher sodium foods (salty foods), then water retention is typically the outcome. Water retention can make the scale go up.
♦︎ The scale can also go up if you gain muscle. That’s actually AWESOME! The more muscle tissue you have, the faster your metabolism and the more efficient you become at burning bod fat. If the scale goes up but your are smaller & leaner…does it really matter what that number is??!!!!
Did you know that your body weight fluctuates 3-5lbs throughout the day? Try weighing yourself at 8am and compare to what it says at 8pm. So many environmental factors and physiological factors are at play here. But that’s it! You absolutely did not gain 3-5lbs of fat within a day.
